This quarter Tabu “Thick N’ Sassy Magazine wants to continue to focus on the real issues. Therefore, by doing so, Tabu “Thick N’ Sassy” Magazine will become more edgy and will focus more on matters of the heart. Tabu “Thick N’ Sassy” Magazine has added some adult content that may not be suitable for individuals who are less than 18 years of age. It is up to you as a parent to monitor your child and to make sure they are being monitored when reading Tabu “Thick N’ Sassy” Magazine.
In addition, on a more personal note, this year my husband was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and he is only 37 years of age. This caught us by surprise especially with him being so young. However, what has happen to my husband is not at all as uncommon as one may think. Although a study was done in 2003 showing that African Americans has lowered their mortality rates and has reduced risk of re-hospitalization, African Americans are still at the highest risk of being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. We as African American are going to have to take much better care of ourselves and we are going to have to start watching more closely as to the types of foods we decide to put into our bodies due to the fact that Congestive Heart Failure is not only something that can happen to you of the blue but it can be handed down through your genes passing from generation to generation and once you get Congestive Heart Failure there is no cure. An “Awareness” tab has been added to Tabu “Thick N’ Sassy” Magazine’s online website with one purpose in mind, to educate all races of how serious Congestive Heart Failure really is. Please join me in the fight and talk to your families and get tested. But be aware sometimes that Congestive Heart Failure Does not make its presence known until it’s almost too late.
Some of the warning signs of Congestive Heart Failure are:
Shortness of breath especially when lying down
Cough
Edema
Weight Gain (Although my husband lost weight rapidly)
Fatigue
Chest Pain
Acute Pulmonary Edema
High Blood Pressure
Low Blood Pressure
Sounds of Fluid in the Lungs
Third Heart Sound
